The Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance and the National Development and Reform Commission announced on September 21 the list of universities and colleges to participate in China's initiative to build world-class universities and world-class disciplines (referred to as the Double First Class Project). The plan earmarks 42 universities and colleges to be developed into world-class educational institutions, and 95 universities for upgrading their preponderant disciplines into first-rate ones. NJUPT made the cut with the discipline of Electronic Science and Technology, marking a historic opportunity for the university.
