2017 Kaleidoscope Academic Conference held by International Telecommunication Union(ITU) and hosted by Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications(NJUPT)took place in Nanjing during 27th to 29th, November. The Conference is the highest level academic conference in the field of Information and Communication Technologies(ICTs) development standardization and is the first time held in China. The conference attracted more than 300 experts and scholars from over 26 countries, centering on the theme of “Challenges for a data-driven society”.
The opening ceremony was held on November 27th, in which Mr. Houlin Zhao, the secretary-general of ITU and outstanding alumnus of NJUPT, delivered video opening remarks. Mr. Chaesub Lee, the director of Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, ITU delivered opening address on site. Mr. Yin Chen, director general of Science and Technology Department of MIIT and Prof. Chen Liu, chairman of NJUPT delivered welcome remarks on the opening ceremony.
The closing ceremony was held on 29th November, in which Prof. Guoping Jiang, vice president of NJUPT and Mr. Chaesub Lee, director of Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, ITU awarded author of the best paper, and Prof. Zhihua Zhang, vice president of NJUPT delivered the closing address.
During the conference, centering on “Challenges for a data-driven society” and highlighting the urgent area of International Standardization, experts shared innovative researching methods of data management and analysis and discussed the development of emerging ICT. Prof. Subin Shen, Prof. Dong Yue, Prof. Shengmei Zhao, Prof. Yulong Zhou presided academic session respectively.
23 papers presented in the conference will be published in Kaleidoscope 2017 Proceedings andIEEE Xplore Digital Library. Doyoung Eom and Heejin Lee of Korea’s Yonsei University have claimed 1st prize at Kaleidoscope 2017 for their review of research into e-health standards and integration of related findings, an exercise intended to bring more cohesion to analyses of standards’ contribution to ICT-enabled healthcare innovation.
The conference identifies emerging trends in ICT research and their implications for international standardization, providing a platform for exchange and cooperation between industrial standardization researchers and academic circles in the field of ICT. Thus, it has become an important window for international experts and scholars of industrial and academic circles to understand the development of China’s communication technologies and standardization work. At the same time, the conference has promoted the exchange and cooperation between China’s related researchers in academia and industry in the field of ICT and their international counterparts, and has accelerated our research and industrial development in the field of ICT.
