Professor Chen Guanrong Visits NJUPT

Recently, Professor Chen Guanrong from the Department of Electronic Engineering of the City University of Hong Kong paid a visit to our school (Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications). Chen is also an academician of the Academia Europaea (The Academy of Europe) as well as the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and an IEEE (short for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Life Fellow. During the visit, he gave out a series of academic lectures on “complex network”, enlightening teachers and students present.

Profile of the speaker: Professor Chen Guanrong received a master's degree in computational mathematics from Sun Yat-sen University in 1981. After gaining his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Texas A&M University in 1987, he began to teach at Rice University and Houston University in the United States. Since 2000, he has been working as a lecturer at the City University of Hong Kong, serving as the director of the Academic Research Centre for Chaos and Complex Networks which was established by him. Selected as an IEEE Fellow in 1997, he is now honored a Life Fellow. As for numerous prizes he has been entitled to, he won the second prize of National Natural Science in 2008, 2012 and 2016 respectively. In 2011, he was awarded the honorary doctorate by the St. Petersburg State University and an Euler Medal by the European Euler Foundation. In 2014, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Normandy in France and was elected as a member of the Academia Europaea (The Academy of Europe). One year after, he was conferred a membership of the World Academy of Sciences.
